Oakland Road Construction Projects

Two major road construction projects in or near Oakland are set to start the evening of Monday, April 2. There will be ongoing lane restrictions and detours. Staff and patients should anticipate periodic traffic backups and delays as the work progresses.

UPMC is working with the Oakland Transportation Management Association (OTMA) and PennDOT to ensure open communication and information sharing, traffic alerts, and construction news for patients, visitors, and staff. Visit http://www.otma-pgh.org/project_sr885/default.aspx for more information and virtual images of the project.

Blvd of the Allies Bridge Project
Beginning Monday evening, April 2 at 7 p.m.

Forbes Avenue
Traffic will be restricted to a single lane outbound from Pittsburgh, from Moultrie St. to the Parkway East/376 Ramp.

Boulevard of the Allies
The left lane inbound into Pittsburgh will be closed just past the Blvd. of the Allies/ Parkway East/376 entrance ramp.

Beginning Monday evening, April 9 at 7 p.m.

Fifth Avenue
All inbound traffic will be restricted to a single lane from the intersection at Robinson St. to the Bath House. This is AFTER Craft Ave., so the zig-zag to the contra-flow lane on Forbes to the Blvd. of the Allies will not be affected.

These lane closures are expected to last through Fall 2007. Work in 2007 will focus on building retaining walls and the new entrance ramp from Fifth Ave. to the Blvd. of the Allies. The Blvd. of the Allies Bridge is not expected to close for replacement until 2008.

Birmingham Bridge Rehabilitation Project
Begins the week of April 2.

• The northbound side (heading from East Carson St.) will close.
• All traffic to shift to the southbound side, with a single lane in each direction.
• The Birmingham Bridge off-ramp to Forbes Ave. will be closed through mid-July 2007.

Detour:
• Go straight across the bridge
• Turn left onto Fifth Avenue
• Turn left onto Moultrie Street
• Turn left onto Forbes Avenue
